Volkswagen’s TSI engines – turbocharged petrol engines with direct injection – are especially efficient. The fuel is injected directly into the combustion chamber at a maximum pressure of more than 100 bar. Compared with engines of the same power output using indirect multi-port injection (MPI), the fuel saving thanks to direct petrol injection can be as much as 15 percent. One of the most advanced direct petrol injection engines is Volkswagen’s new 1.5 TSI ACT BlueMotion (96 kW / 130 PS). This engine features the especially efficient Miller combustion process, variable turbine geometry (VTG), active cylinder management (ACT / shut-down of two cylinders) and the temporary shut-down of the entire engine.
